Clay Creature Reflection (8-D): April 12, 2013
1. The strong parts of my creature is that it doesn't have a lot of bumps and stuff, because of that it is nice and smooth.
2. My creature is bad because there is no detail, no emphasis, and no emotion on it.
3. The theme of my creature is a bird. I chose this because I thought it would be easy.
4. The form of my creature is a bird. It is sort of small, and kind of fattish. It is about the size of my fist.
5. I did not use emphasis on my bird... Because I kind of forgot, and I didn't really know what to do for it.
6. I learned that I am not good at clay. I cannot make things out of a blob of clay. It is applied to life, because now I know that I am really bad at making clay so I wont waste money on buying clay if I ever thought that I should buy it, but I doubt that I would.
7. First I drew preliminary designs, and I used my one of a bird. I started with a blob of clay, then I started to add water and work it, so it gets easy to use. Then I started to form the body and make the eyes and beak and wings. Then I started to smooth it out so it wouldn't be bumpy. Nothing really challenged me, it was pretty easy.
8. Yes, I think that it is a worthwhile project. I really did not like this project AT ALL, but I still think it is nice to be able to experience different kinds of art.

Peepa the Bird.
Once upon a time, in a tree way up high in the sky lived a family of Poncio birds. In that family of birds lived Peepa, the youngest of the family. Growing up, Peepa knew that she looked different from the rest of her family. Her parents and 3 brothers, all named Peepo (it's a family name), all had light green feathers and a bright blue beak. But Peepa looked different. She had bright yellow feathers and a hot pink beak.
All of the other birds used to tease her because she looked so different from anyone else. Peepa couldn't help it though, that's just the way that she was. She never knew why she looked different, but never really cared. She liked the fact that she was different from everyone else. Sometimes she was sad because the other birds were mean to her, but her mom always told her that it was a good thing that she was different.
Peepa loved the fact that she could fly. She felt so free soaring through the air, without a care in the world. It was nice to escape from everything that happened at home, and all the mean things that were said about her. When she was up there, she didn’t need to worry about anything, she could dream about a happier life. She always hated when it rained because that meant she couldn’t fly, and get away from these things.
Her parents gave her a boundary of how far out she could go until she had to turn around and come back, so she doesn’t get lost. But Peepa got sick of only going out that far. She wondered what else was out there.
So, one day she decided to go and see. She set off on an adventure into the unknown land. Peepa loved dreaming while she flew. On that day, she dreamed of what this unknown land would be like. That's when she flew into the tree. (I like when things run into trees). She didn't realize that she had started to slowly drift down near the tops of the trees, and when she wasn't paying attention she hit the top of a tall tree.
She blacked out and started to fall down and down, hitting each branch that she passed on the way to hit the ground with a small thud. When she awoke, she tried to stand up, but found that her legs were broken and she couldn't move. She tried to scream help, but it seemed like no one could hear her. For what seems like forever, Peepa was lying there on the ground. When suddenly she sees two swooped down to where she was.
"Are you okay?" One of them asked, looking down at Peepa.
"I think my legs are broken," replied Peepa, choking back the tears that were starting to come because of the pain. She thought that she might black out again, but tried to keep herself from doing so.
"We will have to carry her back to our home," said the other.
So they scooped Peepa up off the ground. Peepa yelped in pain at the movement of her legs. Then the two birds flew her to the place where they lived.
When they got there, Peepa looked around and saw that all the other birds looked different from the ones that were at her home. They all looked like her. Yellow feathers, hot pink beak. For the first time, she realized that the two birds that brought her there looked like her too. She didn’t know that there were birds that looked like her. She thought that she was the only bird in the world that looked like her. For a second, the happiness of seeing the birds took away the pain in her legs. But only for a second.
The two birds took her to the doctor-bird to see what could be done with her legs. After inspection the doctor said, "I don't see any way that we can save them..." So the doctor decided to amputate her legs. Once again she was going to look different, even though she had the same color feathers and beak as the other birds for the first time in her life.
She later learned that the two birds that brought her there were named Javier and Benito. She became friends with them as they helped her recover from the amputation. For the first time, she had friends. It was strange at first for Peepa, but then she enjoyed having someone there to talk to.
Peepa was so happy about having Javier and Benito with her that she soon forgot about her family and everyone else back home. After she had lived there for a few weeks, her parents came looking for her. They searched everywhere until they finally found her.
“PEEPA!” her mother exclaimed when they found her. She started racing over to where Peepa was lying, “I thought we had lost you for forever! What are you doing here... Ohh Peepa, what happened to your legs?”
“I wanted to see what else was out here, and I ran into a tree, blacked out, fell to the ground, and broke my legs,” pointing to Benito and Javier, “They saved me and brought me here. Then the doctor amputated my legs.”
“Oh my poor baby!” exclaimed her mother.
“I’m fine mom. Really. Everyone here has been so nice to me.”
Her mother looked around at everyone and seemed to notice something. She looked from Peepa to Benito, to Javier back to Peepa, “Oh my, Peepa they look just like you!”
“I know mom! Isn’t it great? I don’t look different from anyone! Well, except for me not having legs,” Peepa said.
“Yes it is,” her mother said with a worried face, “Are you ready to come home now?”
“No, I can’t leave now!” Peepa said hoping that her mom would understand.
“Very well then, I guess if you won’t come home, home will have to come to you!” and with that, Peepa’s parents flew away. Later they returned with every single bird from her home with them.
It turns out that the king of the Poncio birds thought that it would be good if they interact with birds of another species. So now they will live there, with Peepa and the birds of her kind.
