Printmaking Reflection: 5-15-13
1. I don't know what the strong part of my prints are because I don't really think that they are all that good. But I suppose the strong part is... the... overall design of the print. I don't even think that's good though, I just don't know what else to put.
2. The things I could have done better with my prints are inking, carving, just about everything because it turned out bad, pretty much all of them.
3. The theme of my print is a boat in a lightning storm. I did it because it was easyish to do.
4. The best colors of my print is the primary because the ink came out the best on it.
5. I have pattern because each of my prints is the same. The raindrops are the rythm I guess. The whole design has unity because it all looks the same.
6. I learned that when I miss class for tennis, I am probably going to have to come in during studyhall so I can be caught up with the rest of the class.
I also learned that it can take a lot of tries to get one good, and it takes time to get better at it.
7. First I drew this design in my History notebook during history class one day. I decided to carve it because I thought that it would be easyish to do. Then I carved it out and started inking it and stuff.
8. No, I did not like this project. I thought that it was really boring because we had to do a million prints of this one thing and I got really sick of it. The carving was kind of fun though, just not the inking. I don't really know how he could make it better...

On a Boat. By Kirsten Jordan.
Once upon a time lived a man named Bob. He owned a small boat shop on the coast of North Carolina. Bob enjoyed going boating on the weekends with his friends. Bob had a best friend who was named Jim. Jim never came with Bob on the boating trips though. Bob was sad that his best friend Jim would never go boating with him, but Bob understood why Jim wouldn’t.
Jim's parents were competitive sailors. When Jim was a young boy his parents got into a tragic boating accident. It was a nice day in June. The sun was shining like most days. Then suddenly storm clouds started to form in the sky. The whistles blew, telling the sailors to come back to shore, but his parents couldn't hear anything over the splashing of the waves. Before they knew it, rain started pouring down over them, lightning struck and thunder roared. His parents watched as a lightning bolt came down and struck the pole connected to their boat. His mother died instantly, and his father died later in the hospital. Since then, Jim has not gone out on a boat. He is too scared that he is going to get into an accident just like his parents.
One day, Bob and Jim were hanging out on Bob's front porch drinking lemonade. Bob lived right across the street from his boat shop, so he could keep an eye on the place when he wasn't there. While Bob and Jim were talking , they heard a loud noise coming from the boat shop. Both of them ran over to the boat shop to see what made the noise.
When they got over there Bob ran inside and found a person with a black mask covering his face standing by the cash register. Bob yelled at the guy and the guy turned to him and pointed a gun at him. He took one shot at Bob, and the bullet grazed his shoulder. Bob exclaimed in pain and then turned around and ran out the back door. He found Jim standing outside and told him to follow him. Bob ran out to his boat which was right off the dock connected to his shop. Jim started running behind Bob, but it was dark outside, and Jim ended up running into a tree that was near the dock. Bob yelled to Jim to hurry up, so Jim got up and ran after Bob. When he got to where Bob was, he stood on the dock, watching Bob untie the boat from the dock. Bob told Jim to get onto the boat but Jim was too scared. Then the guy with the black mask came running out of the boat shop and started shooting towards them.
Jim jumped onto the boat then, more scared that the shooter was going to kill him than being out on the water. Bob then pushed off from the dock and they set off away from the shooter.
Once they were out far enough from land, Bob sat down and took a look at his wound from the bullet on his shoulder. Jim found a first aid kit under one of the seats on the boat and tried his best to wrap Bob's wound.
They were both too worried about Bob's wound to notice the clouds starting to form in the sky. One by one rain drops started to fall. It started pouring down on them. Then the lightning started to strike and the thunder started to rumble, and Jim's worst nightmare began to happen.
The boat started to sway back and forth more rapidly than before and Jim and Bob had to hold tight to the railing to not fall off the boat. It was hard for them to see anything in front of them, so Bob gave up on trying to steer the boat. But then suddenly, they hit something. They looked forward to see that they had crashed into a dock. They both got off the boat and made it safely to land.
Alternative ending:
The boat started to sway back and forth more rapidly than before, so Jim and Bob had to hold tight to the railing to not fall off the boat. Neither of them were thinking though, because the railing was metal. Soon lightning struck their boat and both of them were electrocuted. Bob passed out on the boat. Jim fell off the boat because he lost his grip on the railing. And he died, just like his parents died. Bob later ran into the shore and someone came to his rescue. He survived and lived with the guilt of killing his best friend.
The end.
